At the moment we as a group have not started on our project yet. We are trying to figure out what we are going to do. But we have an idea of what we are going to do. I really want to make a change

We were given a weekend to try and buy and eat locally sourced foods. Our Kumu wanted us to experience how eating local sourced foods would feel. To me it was a hard thing because just finding locally sourced food is hard. A lot of our food in Hawaii is shipped in from the mainland. What I did was go to the fish market and brought some fish. Then I went to the farmers market and bought some ginger, parsley, green onions, baby Bok Choy and lemon. But the only thing that was not locally sourced is the peanut oil, and the oyster sauce. What I did was make a Chinese style steam fish for my family and it was delicious. That was majority local sourced food. We went on a field trip to a Waimanalo farm that is run by UH (University of Manoa) and other organizations. We learned about agriculture and how we can put what we learned into out lives. We learned about how organic is the way to go. How eating from the farm to the table is better for you instead of you having to buy your food. We learned a little bit about our culture and how we can be sustainable in our lives.I have learned many things in this first quarter. I learned how I should be and how I should present myself. I learned how to be sustainable and take these sustainable lessons and imply them to my life. I learned about how I could make a change in my community by getting to know this community and making a positive impact on this world and this place I call home. Also I learned a new perspective on what makes me Hawaiian also what I do that defines.
We are going to an Island called Mokauea island. There are only little bit of people that live on the island. We are going to this island that has a fishpond and helping the people on the island take care of the fishpond and clean up the area. Im really looking forward to going out there and learning about sustanability and how I can implement that into my life. Also I really want to learn the history of the island. Most important I really just want to go because the field trip deals with the ocean.
Hawaiians, what makes a Hawaiian a Hawaiian? Is it what we do or is it the way we act? Some are born Hawaiian and some aren't. Even our own type of people sometimes don't even act Hawaiian. To me we don't have to act like a Hawaiian to be Hawaiian. Like speak fluent in the language or do everything in Hawaiian or like the Hawaiians did. If we just have to make sure if we want to be Hawaiian we think like a Hawaiian. We need to think about our ancestors they were very smart with taking care of their land unlike now how our earth is about to crumble. We must be sustainable like the old Hawaiians. If we do that we can now call ourselves Hawaiians.
Mmm a Hawaiian scientist. What is a Hawaiian scientist? An Hawaiian scientist is a person who studies the land, sea, and the sky. They know the know the world like the back of their hand. They see the signs and they follow them. They know what to do when the signs are shown. They care for the land, sea, and the sky. They study each element with care and accuracy. A Hawaiian scientist is someone who they know that they are one with nature.
Well Malama Honua can be defined in many ways we can possible think of. The word Malama is defined as to, “to take care” and Honua means, “land or the earth”. When put together like Malama Honua it means to, “to take care of the land or the earth.” So, to me Malama Honua means to take care of everything that this earth has to offer me or has to present me. It’s my kuleana to take care of this earth so that will prosper for many years to come. Malama Honua also means to take care one another, if it means to take care of the earth and we live on the earth so that must mean that we need to take care of each other.
During the storm of hurricane Lane, I was sitting at home and not doing anything. I sat outside a couple of times and observed how everything was going. To add on I live on the west side and the hurricane was supposed to hit the west side. From Thursday to Sunday I waited to see if the storm was actually going to come. As I was sitting in my back yard it was only windy maybe like 25 mph winds. There was no rain, it was bright and sunny and it was kind of hot. I looked everywhere and I never seen any animals, no birds, but only my dog. There were no flowers that were blooming. The ocean was so rough. It had offshore winds and the waves were 7 to 8 feet. it was such a beautiful sight to see. But at the of it the storm never came.
